My Background

Since 2007, I have dedicated my career to the education and non-profit sectors, always striving to build community and expand access for kids and families. I began working with the remarkable students of Baltimore City, where I developed and taught the English curriculum for grades 9-11, achieving over 2 years of student growth in reading annually.  I then moved to Pittsburgh, applying my passion for literacy and working with children as the Director of Programs for the local chapter of the non-profit Reading is FUNdamental, whose mission is to spark a life-long love of reading.

Seeking to broaden my impact, I joined the Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) for 7 years. I honed my skills as a systems thinker, effective, human-centered manager, and meaningful collaborator. I started as the Gifted and Talented Coordinator, redesigning and expanding programming to create greater equity, access, and preparation for higher-level courses. I later became the Director of Academic Initiatives, tasked with developing and executing strategies for 'special projects' that required cross-functional collaboration.  During this time, I was recognized as the "Outstanding Educator of the Year" by the College Board for my work on expanding and improving the District's Advanced Placement program. I then served as the Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Professional Development, leading a team of over 30 staff with an annual budget exceeding $5M.

In 2016, I joined the Teach For America (TFA) national team, where my work focused on delivering excellent programming at a much larger scale.  I supported regional teams across the country in developing and executing excellent Corps Member (teacher) and Alumni programming, and developed and implemented an organizational approach to 'continuous improvement' grounded in regular cycles of inquiry to engage in root cause analysis, generate and test new solutions towards improved outcomesI also spent significant time designing and facilitating learning and development across regions and within the broader network, and got really good at bringing adults together to engage in meaningful and relevant learning and collaboration.   I also sharpened my skills as a coach, providing ongoing leadership development and capacity-building coaching to program leaders at every level in the organization.

In my role as VP of Program Design, it was my role to lead a large team whose charge was to ensure that Teach For America, as the largest and most diverse pipeline of top talent, provided best-in-class training and resources that result in excellent outcomes for students in the communities where we work.  As a senior leader, I played a pivotal role in setting and supporting the organization’s change management strategy, and I acted as the Chief of Program for TFA’s first-ever virtual teacher training program during the summer of 2020, when we prepared nearly 3,000 teachers to enter the classroom during a global pandemic.  Each year, I secured and oversaw 3M+ in grants.  In this role, I spent significant time working with people and organizations outside of Teach For America, developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships, and staying connected in the broader network.  In 2024, I left TFA to have greater flexibility to focus on my young family while remaining connected to the community.

I hold a Master's in Teaching from The Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelor's in English and Classics from the University of Vermont, and a Pennsylvania Principal certificate. I have also completed intensive training and certification in Elena Aguilar's Transformational Coaching program, and I am a certified Racial Equity Affiliate through the Pacific Education Group. Additionally, I have completed the LUMA and Liberating Structures facilitation programs.
